Unlike the antibody test, this antigen test detects active BVDV infection, which is critical for identifying persistently infected (PI) animals, the main source of ongoing virus spread within a herd. Identifying and removing PI animals is considered the single most effective step in BVDV control programs. Shelf life is 18 months when stored at 2-30°C.
